The 2014 WTA Finals in Singapore was an unforgettable tournament, especially for us as passionate supporters of Simona Halep. She had an incredible week, delivering one of the most spectacular performances of her career.
Our favorite stunned the world by defeating Serena Williams in the group stage with a jaw-dropping 6-0, 6-2 victory—one of the biggest shocks in WTA Finals history.
We were lucky to witness this magic firsthand, attending the semifinal between Simona and Agnieszka Radwańska, invited by a Polish friend who came proudly waving both Romanian and Polish flags. The atmosphere was electrifying.
Every point mattered, and we jumped for joy at Simona’s brilliant winners, screaming at the ones she missed. She played with precision, outclassing Radwańska in straight sets, securing her spot in the final.

Then came the rematch against Serena Williams, and we were there, ready to cheer for our favorite player once again. This time, Serena had adjusted, playing at her best. Despite Simona’s efforts, she couldn’t repeat her earlier win, falling 6-3, 6-0 in the final. Disappointment? A little. But pride? So much more.
Funny fact: we even taught the crowd around us to chant ‘Hai Simona!’ (Go Simona!)
Not only did Simona have a great week, but so did we, the ones who followed and encouraged her! 🙂 We celebrated her brilliant shots with joy and shouted in frustration at the missed ones. It was close to the title, but not this time. Simona, head up, move on, win the next tournament! You can do it! 🙂
Even in defeat, Simona made history, proving she belonged at the top. We left Singapore knowing that, win or lose, she would always be our favorite player to cheer for.
