Deepavali – Victory Over Evil

Updated: Mar 15

This period brings the vibrant Indian festival of Deepavali (Diwali), also known as the “Festival of Lights.” Steeped in rich traditions and legends, it symbolizes the triumph of Good over Evil—a universal aspiration that resonates with all of us, regardless of belief or religion.

In this festive period, the legends associated with Deepavali come alive. Stories like Krishna’s victory over the demon Naraka and Rama’s triumph over Ravana, celebrated by lighting streets with lamps, beautifully emphasize the festival’s deeper meaning.

What I find particularly captivating during this time is how the Hindu community creates intricate, colorful designs called kolam or rangoli. Using rice flour, they meticulously craft these patterns on the floors of templeshomes, and public squares, not only as a stunning artistic expression but also to purify and bless the surrounding area.

It’s a celebration of lightcolor, and hope—a powerful reminder of the enduring strength of positivity and goodness. Happy Deepavali!
