Located along the French Riviera, Villefranche-sur-Mer is a village rich in history and full of charm. Established in 1295 by Charles II of Anjou, its deep-water harbor quickly became one of the most important ports on the Mediterranean, serving as a refuge for sailors and a strategic point for the region. Today, it’s a serene escape that carries the echoes of its storied past.

Our visit was brief but memorable, spent entirely along the Amedée Courbet Pier, a promenade named after the French admiral who played a key role in naval history. As we walked along the pier, the afternoon sun danced on the Mediterranean, and the colorful facades of the waterfront houses glowed softly. The village’s history seemed to whisper from every corner, adding depth to its already enchanting setting.

Lunch became the highlight of our visit, with a table overlooking the harbor. The simplicity of good food paired with a stunning view is something Villefranche-sur-Mer does effortlessly. The clinking of glasses, the sound of the waves, and the hum of conversations created the perfect Riviera soundtrack.

While we had initially considered staying at the charming Hotel Welcome, we ultimately chose another spot along the Riviera. Even so, Villefranche-sur-Mer left its mark. It was a short but sweet visit—a place where the Mediterranean’s magic is felt in every bite, every view, and every moment.
